Can I create a dashboard card with total current credit card balances?

The standard "All Accounts" view has the credit cards segregated from other Accounts and shows both the current and ending balances.

There's also a "Credit Card Accounts" view, with more information about credit availability, but it only shows ending balances.

Sorry for the confusion, though it's created by Quicken's dual use of the term "dashboard."

At some point along the line Quicken introduced "The Dashboard" which is, essentially, a "customized view" that's available on the Home tab. If you click on the Home tab then click on the gear wheel in the upper right hand corner of the screen, one of the available menu options is "Add View." Clicking on Add View allows you to create a new View on the Home tab and presents a list of canned reports that you might put on that View. Unfortunately Quicken has in the past called these options "dashboards."

The two items referenced in my response are available to you in a new customized view that you'd add to the Home tab.

I'm not aware of any way of doing this on "The Dashboard" itself.

You should be seeing something like this:

If you're not seeing this for some reason then maybe Edit >Preferences > Navigation > Use Classic menus would work, though that shouldn't be necessary.

The menu has the same options whether it's in Classic or not. No option for New View.

On the Home tab gear menu, move the slider to the right to enable the Classic Dashboard. This will enable additional tabs next to the where it says Dashboard. The default is Main View. Select that and you will see the panels of the Classic dashboard.

Now when you click on the gear the heading will say Classic view and you can customize the current view or add a new one.

Just so I understand, there is no way to add a report or new custom card to the dashboard. Correct?

If you follow the instructions I posted above, there is a long list of panels that you can add to the "Classic" dashboard. You must select from the list, you can't create new ones. They are not as modern as the new dashboard.

But if there are reports you use frequently, you can add buttons for them to the Toolbar. Go to View > Show toolbar if the buttons are not displayed near the top of your screen.

Jim, thanks for the clarification. Since I found the classic view it has allowed me to put the credit card info in a tab. I do use reports and have put the buttons on the toolbar. Initially, I was curious if you can have additional custom charts of reports in the dashboard view. I know it's limited to the ones on the list, now.

      Thanks again for the help.

Do credit card companies care how many cards you have? ›

This is because credit card issuers generally don't look at the number of card accounts on your credit report when deciding whether to approve your application. Factors like your credit score, your income and your debt-to-income ratio are considered in this assessment. But the number of cards isn't a factor.

What is the difference between credit card total balance and current balance? ›

Is it better to pay statement balance or current balance? ›

You should always strive to pay off your statement balance in full each month by the due date to avoid costly interest charges. It isn't necessary to pay off the current balance before the end of a billing cycle, but doing so can help maintain a low credit utilization and boost your credit score.

The current balance on your bank account is the total amount of money in the account. But that doesn't mean it's all available to spend. Some of the funds included in your current balance may be from deposits you made or checks you wrote that haven't cleared yet, in which case they're not available for you to use.

Is it bad to have multiple credit cards with low balances? ›

There's no such thing as a bad number of credit cards to have, but having more cards than you can successfully manage may do more harm than good. On the positive side, having different cards can prevent you from overspending on a single card—and help you save money, earn rewards, and lower your credit utilization.

Is it bad to have a $0 balance on credit card? ›

Keeping a zero balance is a sign that you're being responsible with the credit extended to you. As long as you keep utilization low and continue on-time payments with a zero balance, there's a good chance you'll see your credit score rise, as well.

Is it bad to have multiple empty credit cards? ›

Key Takeaways. Having too many open credit lines, even if you're not using them, can hurt your credit score. Having multiple active accounts also makes it more challenging to control spending and keep track of payment due dates.
