Ako prvé mali byť vypnuté 3G siete, ale ani s nimi sa operátori ešte nelúčia. Viac informácií zatiaľ zverejnilo iba O2.
Mobilní operátori na Slovensku prevádzkujú siete druhej, tretej, štvrtej aj piatej generácie. Aj keď má dnes každá z nich svoj význam, operátori by postupne radi „ponuku“ zúžili. Dlhšie sa hovorí o tom, že ako prvá by mohla byť vypnutá 3G sieť. Zisťovali sme, aké plány majú v tomto smere slovenskí poskytovatelia mobilných služieb.
Napriek tomu, že najstaršia je 2G sieť, s vysokou pravdepodobnosťou „prežije“ novšiu 3G sieť, keďže je stále vhodná na volania a posielanie správ.
O2 s konkrétnym plánom
Na Slovensku prevádzkujú 3G siete traja mobilní operátori. Zatiaľ iba O2 uviedlo, že s vypnutím staršej siete počíta o dva roky.
„Podarilo sa nám rozumne kúpiť frekvencie v 900 MHz na presunutie 3G. Keby nám chýbalo pásmo, urobíme to rýchlejšie (vypnutie 3G, pozn. red.). Čakáme na generačnú obmenu zákazníckych telefónov, stane sa tak prirodzenou cestou za 2 až 2,5 roka. Dnes už v 3G sieti takmer nie sú dáta, iba hovory,“ povedal v septembri pre Živé.sk technický riaditeľ O2 Juraj Eliáš.
Operátor do 3G technológie neinvestuje. „Sťahuje“ ju však z 2 100 MHz na 900 MHz pásmo, ktoré sa oveľa lepšie šíri. Pokrytie sa teda zvyšuje. Pôvodné pásmo využíva pre 5G.
Konkurenti sú stále ticho
Orange má najväčšiu 3G sieť u nás. Jej dostupnosť je na úrovni 95 percent populácie. Teoretickým rýchlostným maximom je 21 Mbit/s alebo 42 Mbit/s podľa lokality.
Operátor vo vybraných mestách uvoľnil časť 3G pásma pre 4G sieť. Konkrétne ide o frekvencie v pásme 2 100 MHz. Maximálna teoretická rýchlosť v 3G sieti je ale v týchto lokalitách naďalej 42 Mbit/s.
Aktuálne hovorkyňa Orangeu Alexandra Piskunova zopakovala, že zatiaľ sa pri téme možného vypínania nič nezmenilo. Termín konca 3G zatiaľ nemá.

Minulý rok sme priniesli informáciu o tom, že dohoda Orangeu a 4ky prináša pre spoločnosť milióny eur ročne. Na základe trojročnej zmluvy má Swan Mobile uhradiť konkurenčnej spoločnosti spolu 16,8 milióna eur. Priemerne tak platí 4ka konkurenčnej spoločnosti 5,6 milióna eur ročne. Do 2G a 3G siete majú prístup klienti 4ky – 4. operátor chce ale od Orangeu aj 4G. Platnú zmluvu má do konca tohto roka.
Telekom poslal k téme rovnaké stanovisko. „S vypínaním 3G rátame v najbližších rokoch, presný termín ešte nebol určený. Momentálne meníme zákazníkom SIM karty za novšie, aby boli na vypínanie 3G pripravení v budúcnosti,“ odkázal hovorca Telekomu Michal Korec. Pred necelým rokom operátor informoval, že životný cyklus 3G siete je na konci.
Provider skôr uviedol, že staršia sieť sa využíva iba málo a napríklad časť 2 100 MHz pásma v Bratislave využil pre 5G sieť.
Koncom minulého roka českí operátori kompletne vypli 3G sieť. Pásmo využili pre 4G a 5G siete.
Aké využitie majú jednotlivé mobilné siete
2G: Poskytuje základnú konektivitu. Slúži predovšetkým na telefonické hovory a posielanie SMS, prípadne na prenos veľmi malých objemov dát. Technologicky už je dávno prekonaná, jej výhodou je ale relatívne jednoduchá prevádzka a dobré šírenie. Signál 2G je vďaka tomu aj vo veľmi odľahlých oblastiach.
3G: Príchod 3G znamenal aj príchod mobilného internetu. Umožňujú dostatočné prenosové rýchlosti pre základnú prácu na internete. Nemajú síce pokrytie ako 2G, ich výhodou ale je, že ich podporuje takmer každý mobil vyrobený za posledných 10 rokov a štandardne umožňujú aj uskutočňovanie telefonických hovorov. Operátori si ich do značnej miery držia aj ako zálohu pre prípad výpadku iných sietí.
4G: Je základnou sieťou pre dátové prenosy. Po postupnom vývoji ponúka slušné rýchlosti aj odozvy. Jej výhodou je veľké rozšírenie, absolútna väčšina zariadení predávaných v posledných piatich rokoch 4G podporuje. Vďaka technológii VoLTE umožňuje aj hlasové hovory, táto technológia ale nie je až taká rozšírená, ako by si operátori želali. Pre uskutočnenie hovoru sa tak niektoré telefóny musia prepnúť do 3G alebo 2G siete. Pokrytie 4G je aktuálne na Slovensku veľmi dobré a výrazne prekonalo 3G.
5G: Najmodernejšie vývojové štádium mobilných sietí, ktoré umožňuje veľmi vysoké dátové rýchlosti pri nízkej odozve. V aktuálnej podobe ale 5G nie je schopné fungovať úplne samostatne, vyžaduje „podporu“ sietí nižších typov. Zatiaľ tiež neumožňuje uskutočňovanie hovorov a majú veľmi nízke pokrytie. Vo vzdialenej budúcnosti by 5G mohlo nahradiť všetky ostatné typy sietí, od toho sme ale ešte veľmi ďaleko.
